About the Author
Leon Chaitow ND DO is an internationally known and respected osteopathic and naturopathic practitioner and teacher of soft tissue manipulation methods of treatment. He is author of over 60 books, including a series on Advanced Soft Tissue Manipulation (Muscle Energy Techniques, Positional Release Techniques, Modern Neuromuscular Techniques) and also Palpation Skills; Cranial
Manipulation: Theory and Practice; Fibromyalgia Syndrome: A Practitioner’s Guide to Treatment, and many more. He is editor of the peer reviewed Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapies, that offers a multidisciplinary perspective on physical methods of patient care. Leon Chaitow was for many years senior lecturer on the Therapeutic Bodywork degree courses which he helped to design at the School of Integrated Health, University of Westminster, London, where is he now an Honorary Fellow. He continues to teach and practice part-time in London, when not in Corfu, Greece where he focuses on his writing.

This is a well written and easy to read book. The author presents both the pros and the cons for different theories and techniques in this book. Obviously Dr Chaitow is biased towards the efficacy of cranial manipulation, but that does not stop him from saying very clearly what is known, in doubt and not known without favoring one theorist or practioner over another. I will be purchasing more of the author's work. Thank you again for an informative, well researched and well written book.

This is a very well written text and the Cd-Rom with it only makes it even better! It is very detailed and the pictures are great. I have learned a great deal more than when I was taking a class on Cranial Manipulation! Definitely worth every single penny.

About the Author

John R. Walker, D.B.A., FMP, CHA, is a Fulbright Senior Specialist and the McKibbon Professor Emeritus of Hotel and Restaurant Management at the University of South Florida, Sarasota–Manatee. John’s years of industry experience include management training at the Savoy Hotel London, followed by stints as assistant food and beverage manager, assistant rooms division manager, catering manager, food and beverage manager, resident manager, and general manager with Grand Metropolitan Hotels, Selsdon Park Hotel, Rank Hotels, Inter-Continental Hotels, and the Coral Reef Resort, Barbados, West Indies.

He has taught at two- and four-year schools in Canada and the United(States. In addition to being a hospitality management consultant and author, he(has been published in the Cornell Hotel Restaurant Administration Quarterly, the(Hospitality Educators Journal and the New York Times. He is a 10-time recipient of the President’s Award for teaching, scholarship, and service; and he has received the Patnubay Award for exemplary professional performance through teaching and authorship of tourism and hospitality publications.

John is an editorial advisory board member for Progress in Tourism and Hospitality Research. He is a past president of the Pacific Chapter of the Council on Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Education (CHRIE). He is a certified hotel administrator (CHA) and a certified Foodservice Management Professional (FMP). He and his wife Josielyn T. Walker have twins, Christopher and Selina. The Walkers live in Sarasota, Florida.

Thorough - sometimes redundant and irrelevant

Perhaps I'm being too critical given this textbook is intended to be an introduction to the hospitality industry, however I found parts of it to be common knowledge and irrelevant. There were many instances that I felt the author was redundant when discussing certain topics just to make the sections longer, however it was unnecessary - the point had been made and understood without reiterating it over and over.

Beyond this, the book does a pretty good job of explaining the ins and outs of the hospitality industry for someone who is completely unfamiliar (but let's be honest, if you're taking a class that requires this book you probably have a basic knowledge of hospitality). If you don't have any knowledge or experience in hospitality then this book is for you - if you have even the slightest experience in hospitality then you'll be bored.

Hilarious, true genius.

One for the fans definitely, but I do think that even if you've never heard of the Count and have just picked up the book (wash your hands afterwards btw) and are idly flicking through it, it is so consistently mad (just the right amount of mad though) and funny that you will quickly be hooked. KRIS AKABUSSI, MELVIN HEYES AND UNA STUBBS CAN'T ALL BE WRONG. DAMN I'VE knocked the caps lock on again. Whose bright idea was to put it there?

When I read Pawn of Prophecy, I couldn't stop and continued right on through the other four books of the Belgariad. I was then quite sad that I finished the series. It felt like saying good-bye to a bunch of great friends...and after all we had been through together that was hard.

A contemporary feel for a very nostalgic adventure story

I was never much for fantasy, growing up. But I have always had a fondness for stories that depict relatable, contemporary-feeling characters in unusual circumstances. "Pawn of Prophecy," and the entire Belgariad series, had that feel for me. Even though the setting is distinctly fantasy and otherworldly, the characters feel contemporary and alive to me.

This book also has the ability to make me feel nostalgic, despite its setting. Garion, the protagonist, starts as a young boy, and his relationship with his Aunt Pol is essentially the relationship most young boys have with the women who raise them—whether that be mothers or grandmothers or aunts. I re-read this book every now and then just to revisit that warm and golden part of my own boyhood, and all the adventure that seemed to lurk around my home and my neighborhood growing up. Not to mention all the trouble I managed to get into.

This book is the first in a 5-part series—though you could actually call it a 10-part series, since the Belgariad's sequel series the Mallorean ties in so smoothly. I recommend it to anyone who loves a good story with a dramatic hero's journey. You will not be disappointed. This is Lord of the Rings for people who want more direct language and a more pure character arc.

Five stars for the writing, only three for the Kindle edition

I first encountered The Belgariad during my senior year of high school. Without giving away my age in specifics, let me just say that was a very long time ago. I was hooked a few chapters into the first book, and I happily remain so today. Typically, I read through the entire Belgariad and Mallorean series every few years. To each his or her own of course, but personally I adore Eddings' writing style, and his ability to create believable, multi-dimensional characters is beyond outstanding. I heartily give a full five stars to these magnificent books.

Unfortunately, I need to revoke a few of those stars for the Kindle version. I'm not sure who's in charge of editing and proofreading these things, but for heaven's sake someone has to do a better job. I encountered numerous typos in both Pawn of Prophecy and Queen of Sorcery. To be fair, I haven't yet got into Magician's Gambit so I cannot speak for that book. One particularly glaring example is the mistaken use of the word "throe" in place of what most likely should have been "thy." The problem is, it doesn't just show up once; it happens numerous times in both Pawn and Queen. Obviously someone majorly messed up a "find and replace" function during the editing process. Another error that happens more than once (although not nearly as much as the "throe" debacle) is the number 1 being tacked onto the character Durnik's name. So what should be "Durnik" is instead "Durnik1". Okay, maybe it's just me but I actually laughed at that one because I couldn't help but imagine Durnik having a Yahoo screen name or some such.

In the end, the typos aren't nearly enough to ruin the experience of being able to bring these books along with you in one convenient, easy to read format. But it definitely is something I hope the publisher takes care of soon.

Lastly, I certainly hope the final two books of the series are eventually added to Kindle. It would really be annoying to have to switch out to my old paperbacks after being able to take the first of these old classics in on my shiny new Paperwhite.

Pawn of Prophecy Book 1 of The Belgariad along with the successive books in the series are in my all time favorite series. I have read these many times over the year and will read them many more in the years to come. I've been requesting them for my kindle over and over again. Someone has finally managed to provide this one and I bought it as soon as I found it.

David Eddings told a wonderful story of friendship, family and a quest to save the world. He populates the story with wonderful characters that have made me laugh and cry and wish they were my friends and family.

If you love a good fantasy quest story, I urge you to buy this quickly then perhaps they will hurry up and make the others available to us.

I've enjoyed the previous books about Permission Marketing. I also see parallel's with works by Douglas Rushkoff from a few years back. Godin uses the new Adobe format to examine several websites and put critical comments side by side. He reminds us that content drives form and not vice-versa. A bargain booklet at 3 bucks and the proceeds go to a good cause. The e-book format is fascinating. I experimented with the e-book from Rocket and found it great. But then Rocket were taken over and my library was not transferable! At the moment, e-books are going through a bit of a device crisis. And you don't lend out a e-reader as you might do with a book. e-books are not for bedtime reading, a paperback is still the best medium.

True to Seth's style

As Seth Godin says - there's probably more detailed and less simplistic books around which cover the topic of web design and development - and I have read them too. But this one captures the essence of the REAL needs of a web customer in a simple easy to digest format. I would recommend the book for anyone building the first (or even 10th) website. And perhaps I'd even give it to my customers who frequently ask us to build crazy ideas into their websites.

Great Cookbook. Plus Read Review for a Solution to Your Binding Woes

I really like the Well Fed series cookbooks. As far as content goes...this one very possibly has the most recipes that we'll actually make of the three cookbooks. Although we like to cook, like everybody, it seems like there's never enough spare time to cook as much as we'd like. So, a cookbook focused on recipes that take less time is a welcome addition. We've looked through the whole thing, and have made several things. I also find it interesting that the author has picked some of the same types of recipes that we've independently found work very well on those time-crunched nights [homemade taco meat is delicious and very simple even when using actual spices and not a 'packet', and of course grilled burgers with salad, etc.].

Trying to keep the carbs down, I AM IN LOVE WITH the cauliflower-based 'rice' and 'mashed potatoes' substitute recipes that we learned about in Well Fed 2 (page 167). This book uses those ingredients in several dishes such as "Shepherd's Pie" (page 123) and "Dirty Rice" (page 129)...and I literally see no reason to ever eat potatoes or rice ever again! I also really liked the Sticky Orange Sunflower Chicken with Sesame Broccoli (page 173). If you are thinking of doing more low-carb and/or Paleo cooking, I strongly recommend that you check out this book and Well Fed 2 (with Nom Nom Paleo also being pretty good).

Now on the subject of the binding: Yeah, not sure *what* is up with that binding, but it is strange and leaves a lot to be desired. A couple of others are reporting pages falling out. That hasn't happened with ours, but if you leave the book laying open, the cover doesn't return to flat...it kinda sits there all curved around the spine of the book. And is really just funky. I saw a recommendation here by someone to get it spiral bound at an office supply or print store, and this was great advice. I just took it down to Staples, and it was only $5.50 to cut off the old binding and put a plastic spiral binding on the cookbook. It now works *better* than when it was brand new, as it lays truly flat now (see my uploaded image)! I am guessing that at some point the publisher and printer will fix this binding issue, but I'm actually glad that I've made this 'upgrade'...makes using the book much easier.

My wife wants me to tell everyone on Amazon that a great cookbook with a poor binding is still WAY better than the opposite. This way, however, you can have the best of both worlds!

Update 12/14/16: We've made several more things from this cookbook, and I've liked everything except for one recipe that called for ground up anchovy (Sicilian Cauliflower w/ Beef page 73...tried to be 'open' to new flavors...but no thank you). I really liked the Yucatan Green Chile Saute with Cumin-Lime Sauce (page 101) and the Greens with Potatoes & Sausage (page 111). I thought the Chicken Satay Burger was decent as well...I would have it again...but maybe not on my list of absolute favorites from this cookbook. Anyway, we're really enjoying these new meals, and some new recipes that don't take a really long time to make.

My new favourite. I was sceptical to buy another paleo cookbook,I have so many that I seldom use, and little room to keep them. I was pleasantly surprised to see this book is packed with appealing( to my whole family) recipes, with flavours I wouldn't think to put together myself, that are easy, with easy to find ingredients. The best part is, everything Ive made, has tasted really good!

so this is one of the most awesome cookbooks ever

so this is one of the most awesome cookbooks ever. I already bought a second one as a gift. In here you will find what we've come to expect in the well-fed series...delicious inventive recipes with ideas to create even more inventive variations. But the best best best part is the section she calls the "food court". This is how i cook. Recipe templates with ideas for endless variation. For example, Just whipped up a batch of tuna salad and then made the harvest variation and asian cashew variation plus invented a sante fe version of my own. Now I can pack tuna salad to work for the next two days but still never eat the same meal twice! These recipe templates alone are worth the price of the book even if you don't make any of the other recipes. But you will want to make the other recipes too, trust me. This is my favorite of the Well Fed series and it is already going to be one of my "go to" cookbooks every week. Oh the other gem in here is to get a white board and write up your home menus like a restaurant would -- brilliant and fun!!

About the author:

In 2001, thirty-one-year-old Lance Gettler sold everything he owned, bought a sailboat sight unseen over the internet, and went sailing around the world. He didn’t know how to sail, and had only gone sailing once before, nine years prior.

From 2001 to present he has lived aboard a sailboat in the Caribbean, working on and repairing sailboats. He is also active in the sportfishing industry and fishes for a living. From 2005 to 2006 he sailed around the world aboard his 41' ketch with his brother, who didn't know how to sail either.

Lance is now a professional delivery captain, delivering yachts worldwide. In 2011 alone he logged more than 12,000 nm at sea, aboard three different sailboats.
